When I started reading Team: Getting Things Done With Others, by David Allen and Edward Lamont, I found I had A LOT of thoughts that stemmed from reading the book and my own professional experience.

I read the 2015 revised edition of Getting Things Done when it came out. I had interned years earlier at a theater where one of the office workers mentioned the two-minute rule in passing, which made sense to me. Then I heard a Book Riot podcast discussing the Getting Things Done system and that a new edition was out, and I was at the bookstore the next day to get it. I’m convinced the principles of the system have contributed to making my professional career as successful as it has been, and was thrilled to realize there was a new book about team work.

The co-author shares how he became converted to the GTD system, and he reminded me enough of my own enthusiasm for it, and that of YouTubers and Medium writers I’ve enjoyed who have also been converted to it that I identified with him immediately. Having a real fan contribute to a “next step” in the process — in addition to the creator of the system — lends legitimacy to the book and the systems involved.

I think this is a very valuable book. At least, I felt it was valuable for me, as I read knowing that things I’ve noticed about places I’ve worked are called out in it, both…
