Up Your Reading in 2025
One thing I’ve enjoyed the last few weeks on my social media feed is the excitement of all the folks who got a Kindle as a holiday gift. I admit I don’t use my personal Kindle as much as I probably should (I do use the Kindle iOS app A LOT), but as a librarian I immediately see the continued excitement when people call up the library the next day to reactivate their library card so they can checkout ebooks on Libby through us. Always happy to help!
The end of the year, blending into the new year, tends to bring a renewed interest in reading. The “doldrums” of the working days between the holidays means some of us have a little leisure time on our hands while our officemates are on vacation. And with New Year's Resolutions and new Kindle devices, there’s a renewed interest in jumpstarting reading goals.
So from a public librarian, book reviewer, and voracious reader since I was in single digits, here’s what has helped me achieve my reading goals through the years.
Where can you add reading into your day?
Think about how you spend your time. These days it tends to be figuring out when you’re “doom scrolling” on your smartphone. Are you ending your night like that? Do you pick up your phone to look something up and suddenly a half an hour has gone by? Do you have work tasks that require you to wait for…
