Why I’m Sticking With Evernote (For Now)

My dad called me with a slightly apprehensive tone, to ask if I was aware that Evernote was now charging $140 a year to use it.

Well, yes, I’ve been aware of it since it was announced, and spent a number of months trying out other notetaking apps that did not charge that much to see if I wanted to move my thousands of notes and interrupt my workflow to not pay that $140. Unfortunately for my dad, emails from Evernote had been marked as junk, so it wasn’t until his card got charged that he was made fully aware of what was going on.

My dad doesn’t have as many notes as I do, but he has a lot. He’s been using Evernote for YEARS and out of apathy may just bite the bullet and stay with Evernote, but I was able to quickly give him some options if he wanted to backup his notes and move to another app. (In his case, I recommended OneNote.)

Evernote’s price hike was the reason I spent months trying out different notetaking apps and tools. I wanted to really know if itwas the right tool for me to stick with at that price point. I hadn’t been too happy with it, mainly due to sync issues that messed up/lost notes for me, and I didn’t know anything about Bending Spoons, the company that bought it. Plus, being on the productivity side of the internet, I was aware of a lot of great apps…
